COMMUNITY-CENTERED CURATION
Examples of recent projects that connect what is on stage
to our daily lives.

  • Having Their Say: Generations in Conversation

Rachel produced Having Their Say: Generations in Conversation, an oral history project designed to gather and preserve the past through interviews. Through a series of intergenerational dialogues, 10 participants exchanged their personal journeys, reflecting on the influences that have shaped their lives in Hartford. This multi-media project coincided with Hartford Stage’s production of Having Our Say, co-produced with Long Wharf Theatre.

    4th Trimester Gallery Exhibit

In connection with the production of Cry It Out at Hartford Stage, Rachel curated a photography exhibit celebrating the raw, ridiculous, magical and messy real moments of new parenthood during the 4th Trimester. Photos were solicited from caregivers across the USA, with submissions from as far away as Texas and California, and anchored by a selection of professional photos by local Connecticut artist Rachel Liu.

  • A Community Carol

During the height of the pandemic, Rachel spearheaded a virtual storytelling experience for Hartford Stage - workshopping, adapting and directing a digital version of A Christmas Carol for the present moment. It was created in partnership with the beloved returning Christmas Carol cast members, local artists, Hartford neighbors and area theater students. In total, over 80 people contributed content for the virtual production of A Community Carol.
